https://a16z.com/portfolioWe are looking for a strategic communications professional to join the team and work on brand building and and press narratives for a16z's Consumer, Enterprise and Fintech verticals, as well as the Cultural Leadership Fund. This is a rare opportunity for a motivated communications professional to have a front-row seat at a top venture capital firm investing in the best entrepreneurs building the next major tech franchises. In this role, you’ll learn from and work with leading communications, editorial, and events experts, collaborate cross-functionally with partners of every level at the firm, and continue to grow your network, as well as develop and expand your communications chops (think brand-building, executive communications, media relations, issues management, etc.).
Responsibilities
- Support Communications Partners on overall communications plan for the firm and key verticals
- Opportunity to partner with 1-3 general partners in the consumer, enterprise and/or fintech verticals on building their executive communications strategy, including media relations, managing their speaking program and thought-leadership, and offering strategic guidance on blogging and presentations
- Advance narratives around the Cultural Leadership Fund and its mission
- Opportunity to counsel portfolio companies on their media strategy
- Manage marketing-specific events – collaborate with the a16z events team and relevant partners across the firm to design, produce, and manage events on behalf of the marketing team including media dinners, portfolio workshops, and networking receptions
- Collaborate on growing and curating a16z's marketing agency network – this includes identifying and vetting appropriate agencies/consultants, maintaining the agency dashboard to help a16z grow our network of recommended resources and making informed recommendations to portfolio companies to help them scale their marketing efforts
- Support a16z media program - establish and maintain relationships with key media as well as overseeing the preparation of background materials on meetings and interviews for spokespeople
- Co-manage marketing database, reporting, and lists – this includes portfolio, media, and other relevant networks, as needed
- Collaborate with and co-manage a16z's PR agency to deliver high-quality results across all communication activities
Ideal Candidate Background
- Bachelor's degree; 6-8 years of experience in agency and/or in-house communications or marketing; some agency experience preferred
- Skills sought out include autonomy, maturity, ability to multi-task, planning and organization
- Proven media relations experience and understanding of the media landscape; established relationships with key media a plus
- Strong experience working with PowerPoint and/or Keynote a plus
- Emerging track record of managing projects and key programs within teams
- Demonstrated ability to anticipate needs, think on-the-fly, and provide tactical counsel when called upon
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
