INTRODUCTION: The Client is a non-profit housing corporation serving homeless mentally ill adults in Los Angeles County since 1987. The Client owns, Leases and operates permanent apartment buildings and permanent and transitional state licensed facilities which serve this vulnerable population. At licensed facilities, Residential Aides provide care and supervision to clients in strict compliance with licensing regulations, and assist with carrying out the mission of the client in the provision of service enriched housing to homeless mentally ill clients in as normal, home-like and relaxed living environment as possible.
TRAINING - EDUCATION - EXPERIENCE - JOB REQUIREMENTS
Residential Aides must be able to communicate clearly using the English language, verbally and in writing and must have a Bachelors degree. Must submit adequate evidence and referral information of having had at least four years of hands-on experience in caring for persons with mental illness in a licensed facility. Must be willing to be trained and supervised by the Facility Administrator and Facility Manager. PART training is highly desirable. Must have safe driving record, adequate automobile and UI motorist insurance coverages. Must possess a caring attitude and be sensitive to each clients needs. Must desire and strive to help clients reach their highest level of functioning in as normal, home-like and relaxed living environment as possible. Must be willing to attend additional training sessions throughout the year in order to increase knowledge of mental illness. Positions cover three eight-hour shifts seven days a week 365 days a year. DUTIES Residential Aides provide care and supervision to clients, and serve as support staff to Facility Administrators and Facility Managers According to the discretion of the Facility Administrator, Aides may be asked to work holidays and/or to provide coverage during others vacations Residential Aides must understand and recognize signals of client de-compensation, and be able to effectively relate information to psychiatrist and mental health personnel regarding client stability in the event that crisis intervention or hospitalization should be necessary. Must possess knowledge of psychiatric medications and side effects. Must understand how to log, store, dispose and assist residents with taking prescribed medications. Must be knowledgeable of both normal and special dietary needs of end clients. Must immediately report needed emergency repairs to Facility Administrator and Facility Manager when on-duty. Must assist clients during meal time or as needed, and must assist clients with on-site cooking classes, activity and art classes as needed and upon request from mental health personnel. Must observe and ensure that on-the-job safety precautions are following at all times when on-duty.
